Who is Ashneer Grover?

An Indian businessman and investor, Ashneer Grover, became a household name in 2021. He was famous to be one of the most straightforward judges (known as Sharks) on the show Shark Tank India on Sony TV. 

He came into the limelight for his personality, his blunt remarks, and comments.

But this is not all. 

His professional journey started at Kotak Investment Banking, where he spent seven years. He later moved to American Express India. He was in charge of corporate development and played a key role in the company’s Series B investment in MobiKwik.

Ashneer then joined PC Jeweller. Later, he became the Chief Financial Officer at Grofers.

Ashneer Grover was born on June 14, 1982, in Delhi. 

With his father as a Chartered Accountant and his mother as a teacher, Ashneer excelled in academics. He cracked the JEE in his first attempt and pursued a B.Tech in Civil Engineering from IIT Delhi. Later, he went on to do an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad.

Ashneer Grover’s New Company

In 2018, Ashneer co-founded BharatPe, a fintech company. The goal was to make digital payments simple for small merchants. BharatPe’s single QR code solution allowed merchants to accept payments from multiple UPI apps without multiple setups. 

However, in 2022, Ashneer resigned as Managing Director after allegations of financial irregularities. His exit was one of the most talked-about controversies in India’s startup world.

As per the latest reports, he has ended his long-standing dispute with BharatPe through a settlement, under which he will no longer hold any role or shares in the company. His stake will be transferred to the Resilient Growth Trust and a Family Trust, and both parties have agreed to withdraw all legal cases against each other.

In 2023, Ashneer made a comeback with Third Unicorn Pvt. Ltd., launching CrickPe. Unlike other platforms, CrickPe started with a ₹100 crore funding pool.

Ashneer Grover Controversies

BharatPe filed a criminal complaint against Grover and his family. They were accused of fraud. It was said that there was misappropriation of funds and the use of forged documents. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi Police registered an FIR against him and his wife, Madhuri Jain Grover, in connection with the case. The allegations claimed that company funds were diverted for personal use.

BharatPe had also terminated Madhuri Jain Grover, Ashner’s wife. However, as per a few media sources, the whole issue has been sorted out now.
